General Info

  • The Courses start and finish where the Uncompahgre River meets the Ridgway Reservoir, just down the road from where John Wayne kept law and order in the film True Grit! 

  •  Ridgway State Park officers will be on boats to offer a safe environment and there will be volunteers on boards and kayaks to help keep you going in the right direction.

  •  All participants MUST wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and carry a whistle at all times while on the water.

  • All participants MUST wear swim appropriate suits that are non-water logging.

  •  All participants must have their bib # on them during the paddle.

  • Participants under 12 years old must have a parent with them at all times.

  • It is the competitor's responsibility to provide their own paddleboard and required safety equipment to compete in any category of this event. Including, but not limited to: Paddleboard & Paddle, Personal Flotation Device (PFD), and whistle. If needed you may rent a board at Montrose Surf and Cycle.

  • Should an adaptive competitor request additional assistance from the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program (TASP) they MUST speak with a TASP representative no later than 2 weeks prior to the event. TASP support will be determined on a case-by-case basis per request. If TASP and the adaptive competitor cannot reach an agreement the registration fee will be refunded in full."

  • All participants must meet Essential Eligibility Criteria (below).

  •  If for any reason you need help during your paddle please blow your whistle and raise your paddle high in the air and a park ranger or volunteer will assist you.

Categories

Individual 1 Mile - This is doable for beginner to intermediate with moderate fitness

Individual Timed - Do as many laps on the .5 mile loop as you can in 1.5 hours. Requires endurance!

Two or Four Person 2 Mile - You will rotate with your partners at the start finish line, only one team paddler will be on course at a time.

Open Category - Paddle within the buoys at your leisure. Pick up a rubber ducky in a floating basket, redeem the ducky for a raffle prize! (cannot participate in both race and open paddle).

*1 mile individuals complete two laps

*1 mile timed individuals do as many laps as you can in 1.5 hours.

*2 and 4 person relay teams complete 4 laps of the course with only one paddler on the water at a time. You may rotate paddlers at the start/finish transition area.

  • Top 3 Overall 1 mile

  • Top 3 Overall 1.5 hours timed (most laps)

  • Top 2 person and 4 person 2 mile relay

  • All finishers receive a special finisher item

Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC)

  • Competitors acknowledge they meet the ability to perform the following criteria:

    1. Breathe independently (i.e., not require medical devices to sustain breathing).

    2. Independently maintain sealed airway passages while under water.

    3. Independently hold head upright without neck / head support.

    4. Independently turn from face-down to face-up and remain floating face up while wearing a properly fitted life jacket.

    5. Manage personal mobility independently or with a reasonable amount of assistance.

    6. Follow instructions and effectively communicate independently or with assistance of a companion.

    7. Independently get out and from under a capsized paddlecraft.
